Emily's last name is pronounced "day-shuh-nell", with the stress on the first syllable. Emily's best friend is Michaela Conlin who plays Angela Montenegro on Bones. Her paternal grandfather was French and the rest of her ancestry is Irish. Emily used to practice Karate in college and was a member of the Karate team. Emily's grandparents live in Portland, Oregon. She loves to visit them anytime she can. Emily got an audition for Bones when she was recommended by Jerry Bruckheimer for the role of Doctor Temperence Brennan. Emily cried after she read a review that described her performance as Natasha in the 2002 play The Three Sisters as 'wonderfully bitchy'. As of May 2006, Emily has been a vegan for 12 years. She eats neither meat nor dairy products. Emily was in the audience for the 2006 American Idol season finale. David Boreanaz, her Bones co-star, was also in the audience with his son, Jaden. Emily was a member of the InterAct Theatre Company. Although Emily is from Los Angeles, California, she splits her time between living there and in New York. Emily's eyes are blue.
